Visa & Entry

Lost or Stolen Passport in China

Act promptly, but do not assume that an ordinary police report alone completes the process. National Immigration Administration guidance describes a sequence involving the local public security exit-entry administration, your embassy or consulate, a replacement passport or temporary travel document, and reissuance or replacement of the Chinese visa or stay document when required.

Emergency Numbers in China for Tourists

Save the essential numbers before you arrive. In Mainland China, **110** is for police, **119** for fire, **120** for medical emergencies, and **122** for road traffic emergencies. **12345** is the general government service hotline for non-emergency questions and complaints, while **12367** handles immigration and exit-entry enquiries.

Where to Stay

Booking Hotels in China as a Foreigner

Foreign travelers should not be told that they may stay only in hotels with a special blanket qualification to receive foreign guests. A 2024 central-government circular said local authorities and booking platforms should not restrict accommodation operators from receiving foreign guests on that basis, and operators should not advertise illegally that they refuse foreign guests.

Travel Essentials

China Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is not a universal substitute for checking entry rules, and an ordinary tourist trip does not have one single nationwide insurance requirement that applies identically to every traveler. Insurance is still a practical way to protect against medical costs, evacuation, cancellation, baggage loss, and disruption—if the policy actually covers your itinerary and activities.

Best Map Apps for China

No single map app is best for every visitor. Choose by task: finding Chinese place names, planning metro and bus routes, walking, driving, saving locations, and sharing a destination with a driver. App language, account requirements, offline functions, and international availability change frequently.
