China Airport Transfer Guide

Plan an airport transfer using the exact airport, terminal, arrival time, and final address. Large Chinese cities may have multiple airports, and the last metro or airport-rail departure can be earlier than a delayed international arrival clears immigration and baggage claim.

Before departure

Save these details offline in both English and Chinese:

• airport and terminal;
• hotel or destination name, address, and phone number;
• a map pin checked against the written address;
• flight and booking details;
• the fallback transport method.

Ask the accommodation which entrance a driver should use. Large compounds and pedestrian streets can have a different vehicle entrance from the map pin.

Metro and airport rail

Rail is often the most predictable choice during road-traffic peaks. Check the official operator for the actual day's service hours, terminal station, transfer stations, baggage rules, and accepted payment methods.

Do not plan around an old “last train” time. Add time for immigration, customs, baggage, walking between terminal levels, ticket setup, and finding the platform.

Taxi

Follow signs to the official taxi queue and ignore unsolicited offers in the arrivals hall. Show the destination in Chinese. Confirm that the meter is used where required, keep the receipt, and note the vehicle or plate details.

Payment options vary. Carry renminbi cash and a second payment method even if mobile payment is expected to work.

Ride-hailing

The State Council visitor guide identifies ride-hailing as a transport option and describes using platforms such as DiDi. Airport pickup zones can be complex: the app may require a parking level, pillar, or designated zone rather than the arrivals curb.

Match the plate and car in the app before entering. App registration, foreign-number support, linked foreign cards, and English interface behavior should be tested at publication time.

Hotel transfer or licensed car service

A prearranged transfer can be useful after a late arrival, with children, mobility needs, or substantial luggage. Obtain the price, waiting policy, meeting point, contact channel, and cancellation terms in writing. Confirm who is operating the vehicle rather than responding to an unknown message that merely has your flight number.

Domestic and international connections

For separate tickets, allow for immigration, baggage collection, customs, terminal or airport transfer, and a new check-in deadline. A same-city airport change can take several hours. Verify whether baggage is checked through; do not assume it is.

Accessibility

Contact the airline and airport in advance when wheelchair or mobility assistance is required. Confirm that the onward rail station and final accommodation have the access you need. Leave a larger buffer because lifts and pickup points may be distant.
